Horse Details
Toby was a pure lucky find as Kathy saw his photo on Facebook several months after he was advertised. While Kamal was suffering a serious eye infection, Kathy thought she may need to get a new horse quickly in case Kamal would lose his eyesight (which he didn't). She sifted through some Facebook group pages and a photo of a shiny coated and solid build chestnut Arabian horse galloping on the beach caught her eye. The image and the horse just seemed to fit with Southern Cross Horse Treks. The owner was contacted and Toby was still waiting to find the right home. Upon meeting Toby, Kathy felt she had found something really special. What a beautiful soul this horse has! A gentle soft natured horse, with a tendency to worry if things are not quite right.
Toby had the misfortune of a fair share of changing owners in the first 10 years of his life. He was bred with the intentions and hope to be born a palomino stallion and how different would his life have been! Instead he came to Kerewong "the long way round" and he is one of our best natured horses, a "Goddess" horse personality, that "if you are so lucky for him to find his way to your barn, you will not let him leave" (quoted from Dessa Hockley's book "Is your horse a Rockstar?"). Toby truly has a heart of gold and will give you back as much as he receives.
Toby is generally a relaxed horse to ride, but can heat up with the spirits of the moment and then surprises everybody with his speed and power and an unexpected dash of Arabian silliness. His biggest asset are his impeccable ground manners, always gentle, patient and friendly with whoever handles him, but especially if you have some time for a kind word and a carrot to offer him.
His previous owner trained Toby in bit-less dressage and he really enjoys and thrives on the individual attention of arena work.
Kathy took Toby to complete his first 40 km endurance ride in July 2016 and he impressed with his friendly relaxed attitude and low heart rate.
