HomeKamal - The Precious Prince
Horse Details
Kamal was bred and born near Toowoomba, Queensland, and arrived at Kerewong aged 5 years old and only just started under saddle. He arrived at Kerewong, nervous and scared of the big wide world, just one day after calm and easy-going big Copper and the unlikely pair became best friends.
Despite Kathy's plans to quickly get Kamal going on the trail job, Kamal took a long time to become useful for the business due to the fact that all water-involved activities pose a big challenge with Kamal. So anytime the water level in the creeks rose, Kamal would stay home as there was no guarantee that he would cross that water. And this became the story of his life.
He was not a hard worker in those first years, and a slow eater who often lost his appetite and he always looks skinny.
At age 10 Kamal finally made his transition into maturity and gradually became an easy-going responsive Arabian trail horse, as long as we avoid the water! He was the only horse that would not go into the water on the beach for many many years. Then, one day when he was 17 years old, after 10 years of beach rides and always keeping his feet dry, Kamal decided on his own accord to go in and check out the waves!! This shows a horse is never too old to learn something new. Now he actually enjoys going into the water on the beach very much.
Kamal will never be a tough horse, but nevertheless he still is an awesome, sensitive and responsive horse to ride with a great canter and gallop and many rider's favourite horse!
He looks after himself, is very careful and surefooted on the trails, always looks where he puts his feet to make sure he doesn't get scratches on his legs or wet feet. And if in doubt, the Precious Prince proves himself a good jumper too, leaping over the sticks, branches, logs and mud puddles to keep himself dry, clean and immaculate.
Kamal retired in 2020, at the age of 22.
