Horse Details
Mindy was the first mare to join the Kerewong herd in 13 years (since Aliya arrived in 2004) and was the only mare for a number of years after the 3 older mares died. She is 94.5 % Arabian (with 5.5 % Australian Stockhorse). She is very quiet herd member at the bottom of the pecking order, always blenidng in, a little bit invincible, not drawing any attention to herself, but thriving in a herd environment where she feel safe.
Mindy came to live at Kerewong in May 2017, as a 10 year old, but she arrived still very much a young, green and insecure horse, who already had her share of misfortune, different homes and owners. After going from home to home for a number of year, she ended back with her breeder and her breeder was looking for a good home for Mindy where she could gain trust and confidence and asked Kathy if she wanted to "give her a chance".
Mindy thrives on the company of other horses, who make her feel safe and secure. She has grown in her confidence over the years and enjoys living in a big herd and working with the other horses on the trail. She completed an intermediate endurance ride solo in 2019. She is excellent in the bush, very sure footed and a very skilled and strong climber / descender with plenty of Arabian energy, but has difficulty coping with going through overgrown trail sections. For this reason she was inactive during the Covid years as not all horses were required to work in that period. In 2022 she was conditioned for the Kerewong Endurance Team Program, but due to event cancellations she unfortunatley did not enter in an endurance ride event. She will be training for the Kerewong Endurance Program again in 2024. A little pocket rocket Arab mare.
