Your Host & Trek Tour Guide
Southern Cross Horse Treks owner, host and tour guide, Kathy, is passionate about horses, travel and nature and knows what makes a great horse-riding holiday for her guests.
Her knowledge of the local area surrounding Kerewong, Kathy's 60 acre horse farm property, combined with her dedication to caring for both horses and riders while in the saddle, on trail or relaxing back at the farm, ensures long lasting memories of a great Australian horse trekking adventure.
Southern Cross Horse Treks Host & Horse Tour Guide
Southern Cross Horse Treks is a small and friendly company owned and operated by Kathy Holtrust. Wanting a change in lifestyle, Kathy migrated to Australia from The Netherlands in 2000 with the plan to start horse riding holiday adventure tours exclusively for experienced horse riders.
Australian Horse Trekking Vision Becomes Reality
In 2001 Kathy found "Kerewong" the perfect property for the purpose on the NSW Mid North Coast Hinterland near Port Macquarie, where Southern Cross Horse Treks opened for business in January 2004, with a string of eager Arabian horses, a breed well known for it's stamina, agility and tough yet sensitive nature. Over the years replaced by new, younger horses to carry the work load, the orignal group of horses are all still at Kerewong today (2015), some already enjoying their well-deserved retirement.
Background - Living And Loving Horsemanship
Your horse trail guide Kathy has owned and ridden horses most of her life. Her diverse equestrian backgound includes extensive competing during her teenage years in The Netherlands in Dressage (up to Advanced level), Showjumping and Cross Country (Eventing), later obtaining her Dutch horse driving qualifications and driving the Cobb & Co Stage Coach in Echuca, Victoria, during her 1993 working holiday in Australia.
In Australia Kathy takes the young Southern Cross Horse Treks Arabian horses to local endurance rides as part of their trail horse training and conditioning.
Having been on many horse riding holidays and treks throughout the world (Europe, Africa and Canada), your Southern Cross Horse Treks trail guide is passionate about horses, travel and nature and knows what makes a great horse-riding holiday.
Hosting And Hospitality At Kerewong Horse Farm
Kathy runs Southern Cross Horse Treks with assistance from local friends and international travelling helpers and is also responsible for the gourmet side of the business, from cooking breakfast to your request, preparing the horse riders' lunches which will be brought out into the Australian bush by the support vehicle or preparing a wholesome home cooked evening dinner meal or barbecue. Southern Cross Horse Treks riders are well looked after when they are not on the horses!
In additon, your horseriding adventure tour operator and guide is fluent in English, German and Dutch.
