HomeDream - The Supreme Dream
Horse Details
Dream was given to Kathy by a well-known local endurance rider, who was looking for a good home for Dream after Dream's paddock companion passed away from old age. Knowing Kathy from the local endurance rides, he contacted Kathy to ask her to take on Dream.
Dream was supposed to be his owners next great endurance horse but when his owner decided to stop competing in endurance it resulted in Dream standing in the paddock for most of his life, being a companion for the owner’s old endurance horse. At first Kathy was a little hesitant to take on a 15 year old horse who had not been ridden for at least 4 years, but she decided to bring Dream home to Kerewong as soon as she saw him standing in the paddock: friendly, curious, strong and bored.
Being a very social horse, it was sad for Dream to be alone in the paddock after his old companion passed away. He needed a new home and new friends and so Dream started his new life at Kerewong in August 2016. He happily adjusted to herd life and was quickly accepted by the Kerewong herd due to his sociable easy-going nature. He just fitted in so well at Kerewong, enjoyed living in a herd and going out on the trail with others or alone. Previous newcomer Toby became his best buddy - together they formed the Dream Team - and they were often seen running and playing together in the field.
Although Dream had not been ridden for quite a long time, he had good grounding training as a youngster and this came back to him quickly once his training started at Kerewong. He actually was so keen to go out and showed so much toughness and talent to cope with all sorts of terrain and conditions, that he already started to come on the horse trek rides just 2 months after his arrival at Kerewong.
Dream was a forward, energetic, confident, spirited and happy horse to ride and was an excellent lead horse too. His Arabian endurance, soft gaits with a lovely smooth gallop and love for his job of going out on trail adventurures with his friends, made Dream an instant favourite for the riding guests.
Dream had the Arabian endurance and toughness and was sound and happy to work. He made a massive contribution to the Kerewong working herd.
With a name like Dream the expectations were high of course and Dream certainly has lived up to that expectation and proven to be a Dream of a Horse.
Retired in 2021, aged 20.
Died 5 April 2022, aged 21. His Tribute:
Farewell Supreme Dream.
I let Dream go today and the Heavenly Pastures gained a Unicorn. Willing, friendly, energetic, curious, brave and happy - surely these are the defining characteristics of a Unicorn, his name well chosen, a dream horse.
Dream was not with me for very long, just under 6 years. He came to live with me at an older age (15) and he lived to 21 years old. It was a pleasure to have him as part of my team and although he hadn't been ridden for a number of years before coming here, he took to his new life and job at Kerewong like a fish to water. He loved the trails, he loved adventure, he loved the beach and he was the ultimate water boy.
For a horse who only worked for 4.5 years (he was last ridden a year ago), I have an enormous amount of photos of him and that speaks for itself. He was perfect for the job and the camera loved him. For the fairly short time with us he left a big impression.
Over quite a long period of time and ever so slowly, Dreams health gradually went downhill. In the last few months it became clear that something must be terribly wrong internally, his immune system wasn't coping and he wasn't going to get better, but would continue to gradually go further downhill. I made the decision that the kindest thing to do for him was to let him go on a good day.
Dream had a good and happy life, all his life, to the very end. He had the same good home from foal to 15 years old, his last 6 years with me and he did not suffer in the end. With all the rain we have had in the past months and is still forecast again from tomorrow on, Dreams last 4 days were beautiful, sunny, dry and warm.
He was a fantastic riding horse - one of my best - a spunky little grey Arab with a big heart, so agile and sure-footed, bred from good endurance lines with 3 comfortable soft gaits and a rocking canter, he was always a happy, friendly horse and was loved by any rider. Dreams riders always had a smile on their face. It's not easy to find perfect dream horses like Dream. He will be missed and we will talk about him for a long time to come when we look at the many photos we have of him.
May he find my mares who only went 7 months ago, May he find his lifelong paddock companion and equine friend Langer, who died 6 years ago, after which Dream came to live with me. And may he find many rippling waves and plentiful rivers to splash in on the other side.
Dream lies buried 4th in line in my horse cemetery garden. The first gelding to go, who would have thought, with 4 Kerewong geldings many years his senior still alive.
RIP Dreamy, thank you for the happy times. You were such a fun and happy peppy horse to have around on our many adventures. You certainly lived up to your name. Your time with me was short, if only we could have found each other sooner, but we packed a lifetime of adventures and memories in that short time, much more than other horses will have in a lifetime.
Thank you to all who loved him.
